Straight Grain
A while back, I watched Roy Underhill make a "collapsing ladder" designed by Thomas Jefferson. Roy emphasized the need for quality wood for both rail and rung. Straight grain is especially important, as Jefferson advised, "My grain runneth straight". I thought that phrase would make a good tshirt for Underhill's woodworking school, The Woodwright's School. It also might make a good slogan for a woodworking club in dryland wheat country.
